My interview with Susi Hately… or, How I see things

Sep 30, 2026

A Conversation with Susi Hately

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Susi Hately, founder of Functional Synergy, creator of the Functional Synergy Yoga Therapy training, and host of the From Pain to Possibility podcast.

Susi’s work has been an important part of my own continuing education and the evolution of how I see and teach movement. So it was particularly meaningful to sit down together and talk about how the many threads of my experience have begun to weave themselves into the work I now call Spontaneous CORE.

In our conversation, I talk about the meeting place between intuition and logic, not treating movement as linear, noticing small biomechanical relationships, reducing bracing, and my idea of the Spontaneous CORE. I also share my image of being a guide with “big catcher’s mitts”—providing enough containment while leaving room for someone to discover their own edges.

It’s a conversation about learning to see more clearly, feel more deeply, and perhaps interfere a little less—allowing the body to show us what becomes possible when we give it the right conditions.
